Special Edition - YEAR in review (Jan, 1st - Dec. 31st)

Ladies and Gentlemen, it is GREAT to be back writing a week in review, and this review starts the dawn of, not just a new season of Tyler's Week In Review, but a new decade! We are about to enter a new decade of entertainment, of sports, of politics, of all sorts of surprises and shocks! So let's get this Year in review edition underway!

Entertainment

Lets start this off with none other than Jon and Kate! Yes, you've heard their name in Jon and Kate plus 8. A show about a husband and wife with 8 kids SOUNDED like a good idea at first, but by the end of the year, secrets started coming out. Jon got caught with another woman (but who can blame him, I mean really.) then arguments and all sorts of other stuff that I really don't care about helped this story to be on this list.

How bout the Kanye West and Taylor Swift story? That was interesting right? You're right, it wasn't really at all, but it was a shock. I was actually watching the VMA's when this happened and I wasn't for sure if it was staged or not, but the look on Taylor Swift's face said it all. If you haven't heard about this story or saw it, do you own a TV or read the news? Well I'll tell you it anyway. Taylor Swift had just won a VMA for best female video for "You Belong With Me" (I think) beating Beyonce's "Single Ladies". Well Kanye couldn't stand either her winning, or him not being nominated for it because he ran up on stage and took the mic from Taylor and said "Imma let you finish, but Beyonce had one of the best music videos of all time." then shrugged and left. Taylor looked like she was about to cry and was speechless. The crowd cheered and booed Kanye and Beyonce looked almost as shocked as Taylor. But in feel-good ending, Beyonce won the VMA for Video of the Year and instead of using her speech time herself, she brought Taylor out and had her finish hers.

A lot of news on talk shows this year. One of the biggest was Oprah saying she was leaving her show! But before she left she said "Now everyone look under your chairs, you all have chances of being the new talk show host!" and everyone cheered and was fine. Just kidding, but it was really a shock.

Another shocker was David Letterman. At a taping of a show, he admitted to having sexual affairs with female workers of the staff! Then he admitted that he wrote a fake 2 Million dollar check after someone threatened to reveal it all! Craig Ferguson, I hope you're ready to step up to prime-time.

Oprah wasn't the only people leaving their show either. Jay Leno decided to call it quits on the Tonight show, but was soon back on NBC with the Jay Leno Show. Paula Abdul also said she was leaving American Idol! It just won't be the same without your wackiness Paula.

And some movie called New Moon opened up, I guess that was suppose to be a big deal or something. Something about sparkly vampires and love stories.

A huge story that happened this year was the switch to Digital TV. Yes, almost the entire old people population had to put away their rabbit ears and go get a converter box if they wanted to keep watching their Price is Right and Wheel of Fortune.

Now to the sad news. There were a lot of shocking deaths in the entertainment world this year. Let their souls rest in peace. Here is a few

RIP -
Micheal Jackson
Heath Ledger
Farrah Fawcett
Patrick Swayze
John Hughes
Walter Cronkite
Natasha Richardson
Billy Mays
Ted Kennedy

News

Instead of Politics, I have decided to just put it all in one category and just have it be "News". So here are some of the top New's stories of 2009,

I remember when this story was just breaking. I am talking about flight 1549 that crash landed in to the Hudson river after taking off from La-Guardia airport. When I first saw it, I was shocked. I was asking my self, "How in the world did this happen, How is it still floating? Do those passengers have insurance for their stuff?". The biggest surprise was that NO ONE died! Then Captain Sulley was an American hero for a few months.

Bernie Madoff pleaded guilty and got a measly 150 year sentence. Mark Sanford went on a hiking trip on the Appalachian trail and somehow ended up in Argentina with a woman. Weird right?

As most of you know, the economy wasn't the best this year. Lots of companies go bankrupt (including The Big 3). But never fear, Obama came back and signed a stimulus bill and gave all the banks and companies lots of money to get them out of Bankruptcy. It's not like we have a national dept of 12 trillion or anything.

A lot of controversy over in Iran about their elections and, hey..wait. Why do we care?

The biggest story of the year without a doubt is...Tiger Woods! Just kidding. It's actually Barack Obama. Obama became the first black president in the history of presidents! And what has he done as president? He got a Nobel Peace prize (even while running two wars and sending more troops into Afghanistan), Had a few beers, tried to get Chicago the Olympic bid, signed a $787 billion stimulus package, signed a health care bill that said it will reduce cost of health care and give it to people who don't have it, and won't increase national dept (suuuurrreee)

News Stories important but I didn't feel like writing about them.

Swine Flu!

Drivers Ed : Featuring Tiger Woods.

It's a bird, It's a plane. No, it's the Balloon Boy!

Sports

One of the bigger stories in the sports world this year was the return of Michael Vick. The once great scrambling QB that was jailed for 18 months for the dog fighting returned to the NFL. Many weren't to sure that any team would take a chance on Vick but then Philadelphia decided to take the chance and signed him to a 1 year deal. He didn't play much at all but many critics deemed his return as a success. Cleveland was going to sign him but their mascot threatened to resign if they did.

Tiger woods wasn't the only person losing his endorsement deals this year. Michael Phelps, who in the 2008 Olympics won 8 gold medals, was caught smoking from a bong. He was suspended from competition by the USA team for 3 months and lost his endorsement deal with Kellogg. Obviously Michael thought something else was "Grrrreat!" other than Frosted Flakes.

A story that caught the media's attention in golf NOT concerning Tiger Woods was Tom Watson. Watson, 59, was playing in the British Open and was not considered a big contender due to his age. But as play went on, people were thinking that Tom Watson would actually win the whole thing, being the oldest to ever win a major championship. But fate was only on his side for a while as Stewart Cink came back and beat him in a 4 hole playoff. You might not be able to teach an old dog new tricks but an old dog can go back to old tricks and almost write history.

Brett Favre finally retired from the NFL February for the second time in his career. People finally thought the Favre sage was over, but like the first time he retired, he came back. But before that he made a great news story that lasted all summer. It's easier to make a timeline.

Feb.11 - Favre retires
May- Asks to be released from the Jets "reserved/retired" list, which would allow him to sign with any team.
Next 2 months - Speculation of whether or not he will come back
July 28 - Told the Vikings he will stay retired
Aug. 18 - Signed with the Vikings

So far the decision has been a great one, he is having a great season and has the Vikings a Superbowl contender.

The major story in the Baseball league was Alex Rodriguez admitting he took steroids from 2001-2003. But really now-a-days, it isn't surprising when a player admits he took steroids. Baseball has turned from America's past time to America's most drugged up league

Superbowl Champions - Pittsburg Steelers
World Series Champions - New York Yankees
NBA Champions - L.A. Lakers
NCAA Basketball Champions - North Carolina Tarheels
NCAA Women's Basketball Champions - Connecticut
NCAA Football Champions - Florida
NCAA Baseball Champions - LSU
NHL Champions - Pittsburg Penguins
NASCAR - Jimme Johnson
MLS (Soccer) Champions - Real Salt Lake
WNBA - Phoenix Mercury

That's all folks! Have a happy New Year!

Update!!!

Ok, I know I didn't write a "Tyler's Week In Review" last week (or weeks? I have no idea, this month has gone by way to fast, I'm lucky to just remember what day it is right now, Wednesday right? Oh Friday, yeah thats what I meant) , and I won't be writing one for this week either. The reason is because school is starting in a month (bleh) and I have some stuff I need to get done for English because it will be the first 2 or 3 grades of the trimester and because I was stupid, I waited for the last minute to start working on it. So for right now, I don't know when I'll be writing another Week In Review. Probably sometime when school starts. So bye for now.

Tyler's Week In Review - 3rd Edition (July 6th - 12th)

Hello! You are at the site of Tyler's Week In Review! Hopefully you meant to come here and it wasn't an accident. If you did accidentally get here...well there is no hope for you! There is no way out...trust me, I've tried..Alright, lets get this 3rd edition going!

Entertainment-

Don't be surprised if you see more Billy Mays commercials on your TV. Not even being dead can keep this god of infomercials down! A new infomercial for "Mighty Tape" is going to air July 20th. You know you are good when you're dead and you are still making money! Honestly, I think they should take all of his commercials down because I mean, hello? He's dead!

Harry Potter actor Rupert Grint (Ron Weasley, the red haired kid) had swine flu! Amazing right? Not even wizards can keep the swine flu at bay.

This is all I have for "Entertainment" this week because now even NBC is getting lazy and not putting up videos for Americas Got Talent. So if you really want to see Americas Got Talent, you can either A.) Go to NBC and look for yourself and try to find more than I did. or B.) Watch it on NBC Tuesday's and Wednesday's at 8:00 PM. (hows that for sneaking in some advertising!) I probably got the time wrong anyway so lets go to the next subject.

Politics-

Government websites in South Korea and the US where the victims of a huge cyber attack this past week. US Officials are eyeing North Korea as the origins of the attack. Can't you just imagine Kim Jong II and his friend just sitting at his computer trying to hack in to the US governments website themselves? Haha, sorry, I just looked at those pictures again. How can you NOT laugh at those?

Sports-

A lot of news in sports this week, thats why I didn't write much on the other subjects. Lets start off with baseball.

The first no-hitter of the baseball season was thrown by the Giants. They have Tim Lincecum (last years NL Cy Young winner), The Big Unit Randy Johnson, and Barry Zito. And neither of them threw the no-hitter! The pitcher was Jonathan Sanchez. And the only reason Sanchez started the game was because Randy Johnson went on the Disabled List because of a sore shoulder. 3 Weeks before he pitched his no hitter, he was getting demoted to the bullpen after going 2-8 with a 5.30 ERA. What makes this even more of a story was that his dad was in the stands watching his son pitch the entire game. I remember watching it too and I was really getting in to it. My stomach almost dropped after Edgar Gonzalez almost hit it out of the park, but gold glover Aaron Rowand made a perfect catch and robbed it to get the second out of the 9th inning. It's kind of long but you should defiantly watch this video (it's the top of the 9th inning where he gets his no hitter) at 2:13 of the video is where Rowand makes a terrific catch.

If you have a headache, get headaches easily, or just don't like getting confused, these next two stories are not for you. Colorado Rockies pitcher Alan Embree didn't even need to throw a pitch to win the game against the Washington Nationals, last Wednesday. Told you. Appaerently, the game was tied 4-4 in the 8th. Embree comes to the pitchers mound with 2 outs and runners on 1st and 2nd. He then picked off Austin Kearns at first to end the inning. Then at the bottom of the 8th, Seth Smith pinch hits for Embree (no pitches thrown) then later in the inning, Clint Barmes hit a sacrafice fly to take the lead 5-4. A new, real pitcher comes in for Smith (who pinched hit for Embree) finishes the game. Put that all together and you get a win for Alan Embree with him not throwing a single pitch.

The next story is not as confusing, but still confusing enough. Joel Hanrahan won a game...without even being there! What?! Yes. He did throw 16 pitches may 5th when the game started. But after some delays that game didn't resume until last Thursday. So Tyler, why couldn't he finish the game? Well non existent questioner, he was 1,500 miles away, after he got traded to the Pirates a week ago.

This next story isn't as confusing, as just playing weird. The Philadelphia Phillies beat the Cincinnati Reds...22-1...that is not a typo. The final score was really 22-1. Don't belive me? Here is the story. Something even more shocking, is that the Phillies scored 10 of that 22 in the first inning alone! Amazing right?

"The King" LeBron James got dunked on by a sophomore from Xavier. Unfortunatley, we will never be able to see it. During LeBron's "LeBron James Skills Academy", they were playing a pick up game and Jordan Crawford dunked on him. And if thats not bad enough for LeBron, he had Nike confiscate the only two videos of the evidence. Really LeBron? Whats the worse that will happen? It gets put on youtube, its a huge hit for like 3-4 days, you're the butt of all jokes for a little bit, then no one cares about it. But since he took all tape, this story is just going to grow and grow and grow. Today, its just a regular two handed dunk, tomorrow it will be 360-degree, windmill. And it will just get bigger and bigger. Oh well, I have a feeling it will be "leaked" on to the internet scene.

Random Story Of The Week-

Greenpeace activists were arrested after hanging a banned on Mount Rushmore. WHAT?! Looke at this picture. I couldn't believe it at first, I was thinking, "this has to be photoshopped, right?" No, it doesn't! 11 climbers scaled Mount Rushmore and unfurled the huge banner. This is stupid, yes, but how can you not respect them for this? They have some serious guts. They said they took special care to not damage the monument. The banner says "America honors leaders, not politicians : stop global warming".

Tyler's Week In Review - 2nd Edition!

Hello and welcome to the SECOND ever edition of, Tyler's Week In Review! Lets get this thing started. (I'm starting a new thing this week called "Video Of The Week" Video of the week will be a video I've seen on youtube or where ever that I though was funny or interesting.)

Entertainment-

Michael Jackson is dead. What? That is the only thing in the entertainment news this week! It's not my fault they are obsessing over him when a few weeks ago before he died they were calling him a freak and a child molester. I mean the only other thing in the entertainment news I saw that one of the Jonas brothers is getting marred and Tom Cruise turned 47.

Oh, I forgot, there is one thing that happened in the entertainment genre. Americas got talent was on again. But people on youtube are to lazy to upload the episode videos so I got the 2 I could that were from the 3rd episode. No one put up any episodes of the 4th episode so I had to go all the way to the "Americas Got Talent" website on NBC's website. It was torture! Anyway, here are the videos

Episode 3 -

This guy is going to make it big in the country music industry!
Another really good magician.

Episode 4-

This guy can breakdance!
These girls are groovin!

Sports-

Another big trade in the world of NBA. Ron Artest is getting traded to the Lakers (like they really need more talent). But its not the trade that is the big news, it is the history between Artest and Kobe Bryant. I mean, this happened when they were playing in the playoffs. But hey, maybe they'll be so dysfunctional that somebody else in the NBA can win a championship for once.

And since I don't have a lot to talk about on these next subjects, I'll just bunch them all in one paragraph. Roger Federer beat Andy Roddick at Wimbledon to win his 15th major. And thats a record appareantly. The Williams sisters were in the championship round in doubles and singles, they won the doubles and Serena beat Venus for the singles championship. Serena and Venus, were they born in Greece or something?

Joey Chestnut won the 2009 Nathans hot dog eating contest (which was recently crowned the best hot dog) by eating 68 hot dogs in 10 minutes! Now thats a lot ( captian obvious strikes again!) especially considering a few years ago, the winning hot dog eater only ate 25 in 10 minutes (only?). He won't have weak bones.

Albert Pujols hit his St Louis Cardinal's record 4th grand slam of the season. Now if that doesn't spell MVP then I don't know what does. The Cardinals were down 3-0 in the bottom of the 8th inning when Pujols came up to the plate with the bases loaded. Then the bat cracked the ball and Pujols did what he does best and knocked it out of the park. They ended up winning the game 7-4. With the bases loaded, Albert is hitting .750, has 4 grand slams, 20 RBI, 6 hits, and 10 runs. Those are Hall Of Fame stats.

Politics-

Sarah Palin is stepping down from being governor of Alaska. She does know that Mark Sanford was suppose to be stepping down and not her right? Anyway, she didn't say why she was stepping down but many people suggest that she is going to focus on training for the 2012 olympics to play on the hockey team. Kidding, they say that she is going to focus on the 2012 presidential race. All the democrats will say "boo!" all the republicans will say "yay!" and all the people who don't care will say "Turn the channel back to the game!". Honestly I could care less because we all know she isn't going to win.

North Korea are pulling shananigans again! South Korea has reported that North Korea fired 4 short range missiles off its east coast. East Korea had nothing to say and West Korea was to busy partying with china to comment. They better watch out though because do they honestly think they can take down the US and its Allies? I mean China is kind of North Korea's ally but North Korea has been so annoying that China is getting mad at them. North Korea - 1 missile that may be able to reach alaska if it doesn't fall apart right after lift off. United States - around 9,600 nuclear weapons. Seriously North Korea, give your leader some milk and cookies and give him a nap because he is too insane for his own good.

Random Story Of The Week-

The crown of the Statue of Liberty is now open again. It re-opened July 4th. Only 30 people are allowed at a time each hour and they are guided by a park ranger. But I think this is a great way to celebrate America's birthday. You can read the article here.

Hello and welcome to the FIRST EVER Tyler's Week In Review. I know you're all excited but I can't hear you clapping through the computer. So lets get this review under way! And what a week it was, we had tragic deaths, craziness in Iran (but when is there not craziness in Iran?), A governor who is terrible at lying, Guitar Hero getting trashed by a rock legend, and much more, so lets get this train rolling!!!

Entertainment -

-I'm sure you have all heard this by now but Jon and Kate are getting divorced! But they are still going to do episodes of Jon and Kate plus 8, which thank god they are because I don't think I could live without watching two dysfunctional parents who are divorced trying to raise 8 kids!! Am I right or am I right?!?!

-Jimmy Page and Jack White threw some harsh words at Guitar Hero this week. In an interview, Jack White said "It's depressing to have a label come and tell you that Guitar Hero is how kids are learning about music and experiencing music, If you have to be in a video game to get in front of them, that's a little sad."
Jimmy Page also chimed in by saying he "doesn't believe players of games like Guitar Hero are really learning anything about music"
Now while I agree that it is sad that people are learning about music in front of a video game, I still think Guitar Hero and Rockband are great games. These games are teaching kids about real rock n roll and music. Not that stuff they hear on the radio now-a-days.

-America's Got Talent started this week! Yay, another talent show on TV. But I will admit that I watch it. I personally like the people who have no talent at all but think they do. That's what should be made a show! "America's Got Talent : Reject Edition", now THAT whould be a show! But they have some pretty cool talents on the show. But there is only one american judge on the show. They say America's Got Talent, but appearantly not enough to judge it so they have to pull in two British people and then have David Hasselhoff as the american judge. But here are some videos from the first two episodes-

Day 1-

This guy has a hasselcrush (the part where the guy is singing doesn't actually start until 2:53)
This guy needs to see a doctor
Is this guy Obama or James Brown?
This dog really is rockin'

Day 2-

These kids can dance
Another kid dancer who can, well, dance
A pretty cool magaician act
Transformers got talent
A Dancing Magician

Sports -

-Lucas Glover won the US Open this past week in golf. You're probably saying who? Well so am I. Mainly because I don't watch golf. I only know Tiger Woods and Phil Mickelson and I'm probably not the only one.

-The United States beat Spain in soccer. Again I don't know much because I don't watch soccer but any sport the US wins in is good. This was a big deal though because the US had to beat Spain to get in to the finals of their bracket and no one though they could do it because Spain was ranked 1 in the country, had a 35 game unbeaten streak and a 15 game winning streak. And the US was on the verge of being eliminated after losing their first two games and being only 1-7-1 against no.1 ranked teams. They ended up losing in the final game though

-The College World Series took place this week too, No. 3 LSU beat No. 1 Texas in 3 games to win it all. It is LSU's 6th national title.

-Blake Griffin from OU was the first overrall pick in the NBA draft last week. That makes the 4th straight draft that a player from the Big 12 has been selected in the top 2. That is pretty remarkable considering most people thing the Big 12 is a football conference. Another big story in the draft that Shaquille O'Neal was traded to the Cleveland Caviliers! So lets see, Shaq has played for the Orlando Magic, Los Angeles Lakers, Miami Heat, Pheonix Suns and now the Cleveland Caviliers. While I like Shaq, I think he just needs to retire. He's pushing 40 and isn't as good as he used to be. But hey, thats just my opinion.

Politics-

-Yay, everyones favorite subject, politics! Lets start off with Iran. Man it is crazy up there isn't it? There have been all sorts of protests against the election results. Why you ask? Well I'll tell you. It was a very close race between the canidates to be the president of Iran (because everyone wants that job) and then all of sudden, President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad won the election by more than 100 percent! Crazy right?! I'm just kidding, he actually won with more than 65% of the vote. There have been tons of protests in Iran about not getting their sheep and bread for voting for him. No but really they aren't happy and it is really quite sad. People are dieing up there because of the protests. Despite all of the protests, Iran has decided not to have another election and will keep Mahmoud Ahmadinejad as president.

-Everyone knows the slimeball Bernie Madoff right? He did that 50 billion dollar scandal that affected more than 13,500 people. Well his lawyers want his sentence reduced to 12 years. What? You can't handle 150 years in prison? You'll only be 221 when you get out for crying out loud! What a wimp.

- Did you hear about the South Carolina governor Mark Sanford? He went missing for four days! But it was all ok, he just went hiking on the Apalachian trail. Well, at least that was his first excuse. He was actually having an affair with a woman in Argentina. Which I say to that, play him off keyboard cat! (For those who don't know, people play the Keyboard Cat when someone does something stupid or dumb)

Random Story Of The Week-

-A Teen by the name of Chase Abrams graduated college a few weeks after graduating High School. How you ask? Well tell you I will. He was involved in the Accelerated College Enrollment and Pre-Accellerated College Enrollment program at Cal Sate. Its basically for people who want to test the college waters and take some classes. Well he did that...and more! His typical day went like this

5 a.m. with a workout at the gym.
6:30 a.m. - 7:30 a.m.: Take sister to Calabasas.
7:30 a.m. - 8 a.m.: Drive to Chatsworth
8 a.m. to 3 p.m.: Attend high school classes
3:30 p.m. to 4:45 p.m.: Football practice

then he'd finish his college classes at 10 p.m. Then he'd spend 1 weekend day studying and the other weekend day hanging out with friends. But his busy schedule didn't stop him from being a regular teen, he went to prom, had friends and had a girl friend for 2 1/2 years.
